Canadian planemaker Bombardier responded to President Donald Trump’s threat to ban the sale of its jets in the U.S., threatening to escalate an ongoing trade war with Canada, by touting the “tens of thousands” of American jobs it has created.

In a Truth Social post on Monday afternoon, Trump wrote, “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES,” and claimed that their products were not “good enough.”
The president claimed that over 50% of the Canadian planemaker’s revenue comes from the U.S. and argued that Canada had “blocked” Gulfstream Aerospace from “doing business” in the country.
Trump’s remarks appear to refer to the earlier delay in the certification of certain Gulfstream jets, which Canadian officials in January blamed on compliance issues rather than politics, before approving the jets the next month.
The president’s post added that if Canadian companies want access to the U.S. market, they “must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”
The president ended his post with an all-caps appeal urging people to buy American goods and fly on American airlines.
What Has Bombardier Said In Response?
In a statement issued late on Monday, the planemaker described the U.S. aerospace industry as a “clear winner on trade and exports,” and said Bombardier was a “strong contributor to the sector.” The company said it is creating tens of thousands of jobs across the U.S. in an industry where the U.S. is a “continual trade surplus winner.” The planemaker touted that its workers are based all around the U.S., including sites in “Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, Washington, D.C. and New Jersey.” Bombardier also pointed out that its planes are built with “American-made components such as engines, avionics and many more key systems provided by great American companies.”

Bombardier also found a key supporter in GOP Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, where the company’s U.S. operations are headquartered. In a post on X, Moran wrote: “The presence of Bombardier in Wichita supports a local workforce of more than a thousand employees, who contribute their talent and expertise to our nation’s defense and aerospace capabilities. This afternoon, I reached out to the Trump administration to make certain the President is aware of the significant contributions of Bombardier to Kansas and the importance of its presence in Wichita to many Kansas workers at Bombardier and in the Bombardier supply chain.”
