Indiana unemployment remains low despite US job dip

Aug. 7, 2026, 3:00 p.m. ETIt's a tough economy out there, but Indiana's unemployment rate has been faring better than the national average, a trend that could continue even after the U.S. lost 23,000 jobs in July.U.S. employers shed 23,000 jobs last month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Aug. 7, a figure far below analyst's expectations, and downward revisions to job growth numbers for May and June reflect a weaker labor market than previously estimated. The July job losses overall come after hiring slowed in June following an earlier rebound from historically weak job creation in 2025. The July estimate comes in below the department’s now-revised estimated gains of 20,000 jobs added in June and 63,000 added in May.Indiana has yet to release its July 2026 employment report, but data from January through June provided by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development shows the Hoosier State has maintained lower unemployment and higher labor force participation - the percentage of people 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for...

The July jobs numbers are due out Friday. Here’s what to expect

Job seekers wait in line for free resume preparation services as they attend a Inspire Together job and resource fair in Los Angeles, California, July 29, 2026.Patrick T. Fallon | Afp | Getty ImagesJob growth isn't expected to show much improvement in July, with payrolls and the unemployment rate likely holding relatively steady and economists looking through the headline numbers for further clues about labor market health.Nonfarm payrolls are expected to post a gain of just 83,000, with the unemployment rate unchanged at 4.2%. That would come off a slow June, which saw an increase of just 57,000 jobs.Outside the headline numbers will come important indicators about the general strength in the job market — specifically, participation in the labor force, wage growth and the sectors that are driving the labor market now. All that will paint an important picture for Federal Reserve officials, who lately have been expressing both a great deal of confidence in the labor market and...

GLOBAL MARKETS-Stocks fall ahead of Friday’s US jobs data; oil gains on Iran concerns

Most major stock indexes eased on ‌Thursday, ahead of Friday's key U.S. jobs report, while oil prices jumped on concerns about U.S. and Israeli access to the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported, citing a lawmaker, that an Iranian parliamentary committee ‌is reviewing a preliminary bill that would bar U.S., Israeli and other "hostile" vessels from transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The draft bill would impose fines of up to 20% of a ship's cargo value for violations of the proposed restrictions.Brent crude futures rose $3.04, or 3.83%, to settle at $82.49 a barrel. U.S. West ‌Texas Intermediate futures gained $2.07, or 2.75%, to $77.29. Higher oil prices are a negative for consumers and the economy. "There's a distaste for risk assets in ‌the air," said Jake Dollarhide, chief executive officer of Longbow Asset Management in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "You see higher oil and higher interest rates."All three of the major U.S. stock indexes ended lower, while a...

Tu Guia USA Review 2026: Jobs, Housing & Safety

Tu Guia USA is a Spanish-language classifieds marketplace where people across the United States can search for jobs, housing, cars, professional services, electronics, and other local opportunities. For Spanish-speaking users and Latino communities, Tu Guia USA can provide another way to discover employers, apartments, businesses, sellers, and services that may not appear in their usual searches. However, there is one important limitation to understand before using Tu Guia USA: an advertisement appearing on the website does not automatically prove that the advertiser or every claim inside the listing has been independently verified. That distinction becomes particularly important when Tu Guia USA listings involve employment, rental deposits, legal services, vehicles, sensitive personal information, or significant payments. This independent Tu Guia USA review explains what TuGuiaUSA.com is, how the marketplace works in 2026, what users can find, what “Aprobado” means, how free advertising works, whether Tu Guia USA appears legitimate, and how buyers, renters, job seekers, sellers, and people searching for professional services can use...

What’s at stake in the Canada-U.S. trade deal? How looming tariffs could cost Canada 90,000 jobs: Trevor Tombe in The Hub

What’s at stake in the Canada-U.S. trade deal? How looming tariffs could cost Canada 90,000 jobs: Trevor Tombe in The Hub

This article originally appeared in The Hub. By Trevor Tombe, August 21, 2026 At the very last minute on August 19, President Trump paused the new 50 percent tariffs on selected Canadian exports. Following ongoing negotiations between the two countries, they are now set to take effect at 12:01 am this Saturday if no final arrangement is reached. While the situation is fast-moving and there are various reports that some sort of agreement will be reached, with a measure of tariff relief for at least some sectors, it’s worth considering the implications of what happens if the 50 percent tariffs are enacted. There has been plenty of analysis of what Canada should or shouldn’t do in response, and what it should or shouldn’t agree to at the negotiating table. There has been much less analysis done on what these new tariffs might mean for jobs across the country. At the macro level, solid estimates suggest the broader economic implications may be relatively small, including from recent work by Joseph Steinberg, a University...
