CANBERRA: The ACT Government has outlined a long-term vision to transform Eastern Canberra into a major jobs, investment and innovation precinct.
ACT Chief Minister and Labor Leader Andrew Barr said the area’s strategic location near Canberra Airport, freight connections, rail infrastructure and established employment hubs provides a strong foundation for future economic growth.
The proposed precinct would bring together advanced manufacturing, defence industries, clean technologies, aviation services, logistics, research and innovation.
The government says the development could attract private investment, support business growth and create high-value jobs while strengthening Canberra’s position as Australia’s knowledge capital.
The vision also includes protecting the rural and environmental character of the Majura Valley, where agriculture, wineries and other rural enterprises already operate.
The precinct is expected to integrate employment, infrastructure, conservation, agriculture and recreation as part of a long-term plan for sustainable economic development.
The ACT Government says Eastern Canberra will be designed to be energy-ready, freight-connected and digitally enabled while supporting emerging industries and protecting significant natural and rural landscapes.
