Brief History of Evans Scholarship
The Chick Evans Scholarship was established in 1930 by Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., a professional golfer who won the U.S. Open in 1916 and the Western Open twice. Evans was a caddie as a youth and received financial assistance to attend college through a caddie scholarship. He wanted to give back to the caddie community and help other caddies afford a college education, so he founded the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship was initially only available to caddies in the Chicago area, but it has since expanded to include caddies from across the United States. The scholarship covers tuition and housing for four years at an accredited university and is renewable for up to four years. To date, the Chick Evans Scholarship has provided over 10,000 caddies with the opportunity to attend college.
